Cousin of the legendary Man of Steel, Kara Zor-El was rocketed to Earth as a teenager from the dying planet Krypton, where she now struggles to master her abilities. Kara is older than Superman, she just appears younger because her escape pod went off course, trapping her in suspended animation.
According to some story lines, she is more powerful than Superman as she stayed longer on Krypton.
Kara first appeared on the scene in May 1959 in Action Comics (Number 252).
Supergirl was reborn in 2004 after the character was killed off in 1985.
About the Supergirl Movie
The new Supergirl movie focuses on Kara’s origin story.
It is believed to be an adaptation of a comic book series called Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which came out in 2021.
The Supergirl 2026 movie is not the character’s first appearance on the silver screen: there was a Supergirl movie in 1984 where Helen Slater played the super hero. The Supergirl character has also appeared in many TV series in recent years.
Who played Supergirl in the new Superman movie? The Maiden of Might also graced our screens in 2025’s Superman, where she was played by Milly Alcock. Alcock also plays her in the new movie.
When is the new Supergirl movie releasing? The Supergirl movie is slated for a summer 2026 release.
